Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Jinshu mobile application ("App") provided by Jinshu ("we", "us", or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Description of the Service

Jinshu is a multilingual reading app with automatic vocabulary annotations for English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean documents. The App allows you to import and read documents with smart annotations, highlights, notes, read-aloud, and vocabulary review features.

1a. Experimental Features

Certain features are marked as "Experimental" in the App. Experimental features:

• May be modified, discontinued, or moved behind a paywall in future updates without prior notice
• May require an internet connection (e.g., cloud-based speech synthesis)
• Are provided without warranty of availability or continuity
• When using cloud-based experimental features, document text may be sent to our servers for processing. See our Privacy Policy for details on data handling.

Alternative offline options are provided where possible. For example, on-device voice engines are available as an alternative to cloud-based speech synthesis.

2. User Accounts

The App does not require an account to use. You may optionally sign in with Apple to enable purchase synchronization across devices. Account creation is entirely voluntary.

3. Subscriptions and Purchases

a) Subscription Plans

Jinshu offers the following premium plans:

• Monthly Subscription — auto-renews every month
• Yearly Subscription — auto-renews every year
• Lifetime Purchase — one-time purchase, no renewal

b) Auto-Renewal

Monthly and yearly subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. iOS purchases renew through the App Store. Android activation-code purchases and subscriptions renew or are managed through Stripe.

c) Managing Subscriptions

You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time:

• iOS: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions
• Android: Stripe customer portal link in your receipt email

d) Refunds

iOS refunds are handled by Apple according to App Store policy. Android Stripe purchases are handled through Stripe and support contact. We do not process App Store refunds directly.

4. Content and Intellectual Property

The App provides tools for reading and annotating content. You are responsible for ensuring that any books or content you import into the App are obtained legally and that you have the right to use them. We do not host, distribute, or provide copyrighted book content beyond the bundled public domain classics.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Use the App in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
• Attempt to circumvent any security or access controls
• Use the App to distribute malicious content

6. Privacy

Your privacy is important to us. Please review our Privacy Policy for information on how we handle your data.

7. Disclaimers

The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee the accuracy of dictionary data, translations, or CEFR level assignments. Vocabulary annotations are for learning purposes and may contain errors.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
