Frequently asked questions
How do I import books?
Tap the + button on the home screen to import EPUB, Markdown, or PDF files. You can also use the "Open in…" feature from the Files app, or paste a web URL to extract article content.
How do I restore my purchases?
Go to Settings → Upgrade to Premium, then tap "Restore Purchases" at the bottom of the paywall. If you signed in with Apple, purchases restore automatically across your devices.
How do I cancel my subscription?
iOS subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID under Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Android activation-code purchases and subscriptions are managed through the Stripe receipt email and account portal.
Does the read-aloud feature send my data to a server?
Only when using the Cloud voice engine (experimental). The current sentence text is sent to our speech synthesis server to generate audio. No data is stored or logged — the server is stateless and discards text immediately after generating audio. No user identity or book metadata is transmitted. You can switch to the on-device voice engine for fully offline read-aloud, or self-host your own voice server.
My annotation looks wrong — how do I report it?
Long-press the word in the reader and tap "Report" in the popup. Feedback is anonymous and helps us improve the dictionary. Reports are rate-limited to 10 per device per hour.
Does Jinshu work on e-ink devices?
Yes. Jinshu ships with dedicated e-ink optimizations (no animation, high contrast, larger defaults). On Android, it auto-detects common e-ink devices. You can also enable e-ink mode manually under Settings → Display mode.
